2. Why we have this policy

We are a small digital business. We design and sell digital products and run our marketing, automation and creative work through cloud-based software. We hold no significant physical premises, ship no physical goods, and own no servers or data centres.

That makes our direct environmental footprint very small — but not zero. Like every digital business, most of our impact is indirect: it sits in the data centres of the technology providers we rely on to create, host, market and deliver our products. Every AI prompt, automated email, hosted file and ad impression uses energy and water somewhere.

This policy is built on one honest principle: we are responsible for the footprint we cause through the tools we choose, even though we do not operate the infrastructure ourselves. It is deliberately proportionate to our size, and we will not make claims we cannot stand behind.

3. Our commitments

  • Stay digital-first and low-footprint. We work remotely, keep hardware in use for as long as possible and recycle it responsibly, and run a paperless operation wherever practical.

  • Account for our indirect footprint honestly. Where a provider publishes usage-based emissions data we will use it; where it does not, we use a clearly labelled spend-based estimate rather than imply a precision we do not have.

  • Choose and review providers on environmental criteria — not only price and features — considering renewable energy, credible targets and transparency alongside cost, security and fitness for purpose.

  • Right-size the technology to the task. Using less compute is the biggest lever we have, so we do not reach for the largest, most energy-intensive AI model when a smaller one, or no AI at all, will do the job.

  • Build efficient, lightweight products. We optimise images, keep file and page sizes sensible, and design pages that load quickly and transfer less data.

  • Practise good data housekeeping. We delete redundant, obsolete and duplicate files and keep storage, lists and automations tidy, because stored data draws power continuously.

  • Favour genuine reduction over offsetting, and never greenwash. We will not describe this business or its products as “carbon neutral” or “net zero” on the basis of offsetting alone. Any environmental claim we make will be specific, accurate and evidenced.

  • Keep this policy under review and improve it over time as our tools, our size and the available data change.

4. The technology we use, and where it stands

Our footprint is largely our providers’ footprint, so we are transparent about the main tools we use and how they perform environmentally — including where disclosure is strong and where it is weak.

  • Microsoft (productivity, AI assistance, and the cloud beneath many tools): public, audited targets to be carbon negative, water positive and zero waste by 2030, with electricity matched 100% by renewables. Transparency: high.

  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram advertising and messaging): public, independently reviewed targets for net zero across its value chain and water positive by 2030, with electricity matched 100% by renewables since 2020. Transparency: high.

  • OpenAI (AI-assisted content and product development): no published sustainability report; states an informal aim of carbon neutrality by 2030 and relies on Microsoft Azure’s renewable energy. Transparency: low.

  • Anthropic (AI-assisted content and product development): no published sustainability report or targets; runs on Google Cloud and AWS, inheriting their renewable-energy matching. Transparency: low.

  • GoHighLevel (CRM, funnels, email and automation): no published environmental policy; runs on cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud and AWS), inheriting those providers’ renewable-energy positions. Transparency: none published.

Our two highest-impact providers, Microsoft and Meta, are also the most transparent and hold credible renewable-energy and water commitments. Our AI and automation tools disclose little of their own; their footprints are effectively inherited from the cloud platforms beneath them, all of which run on substantially renewable-matched electricity. We will keep watching for the improved disclosure that incoming UK, EU and US reporting rules are expected to require.

5. What we ask of our providers

As a small customer our influence is limited, but not nothing. Where we have the choice, we prefer tools hosted on renewable-matched or low-carbon infrastructure, favour providers that publish credible emissions data and targets, and raise transparency as a factor when comparable tools compete for our spend.

6. Honesty, scope and limitations

This is a proportionate policy for a small digital business, not a corporate sustainability report. Where we quantify our footprint, AI and cloud figures carry wide uncertainty across the industry, so we always label estimated figures as such. Most of our impact depends on choices made by our providers; our role is to choose well, use less, and stay transparent. We will not market ourselves or our products as carbon neutral, net zero or “green” on the basis of offsetting or unverifiable assertions, and we will tighten this policy as the data and tools improve.

7. Updates to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
